Christmas Breaks

Storrs Hall provides an ideal venue and location for a relaxing festive experience. Enjoy your 4-night break in the company of fellow guests in this beautiful Georgian mansion, set in its own extensive grounds, with spectacular views of Lake Windermere.

Programme of Events

Thursday 23rd December 2010

Arrive at your leisure and make an early and relaxed start before the holiday to come. If you would like to arrive a little earlier, join us for a gentle walk at 1.30pm – bring your walking boots! Whilst stopping to admire the excellent views over Lake Windermere and the Fells, we will refresh ourselves with a glass of mulled wine. Back at the hotel, tea and scones will be provided between 4pm and 5pm. Later on, at 6.30pm, you will have the opportunity to meet your hosts and fellow guests over canapés and a glass of wine in the Drawing Room. Dinner will then be served in our restaurant, to the accompaniment of entertainment from the Lakes Handbell Ringers and live music. The evening will conclude with a surprise event at 10 pm.

Christmas Eve – Friday 24th December 2010

After breakfast perhaps you would like to relax for the day and take a leisurely stroll down to the Temple and through the grounds savouring the breathtaking views. In the afternoon you are welcome to join an ongoing Wine Tasting session that we will host in our cellars. A drinks reception will follow in the evening, before you enjoy a special Christmas Eve Dinner, again with live music. Relax with coffee and petits fours before the cars take those who wish to attend the midnight Carol Service and Communion at St. Martin's Church in Windermere, returning to warm mince pies and mulled wine.

Christmas Day – Saturday 25th December 2010

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a glass of Bucks Fizz. We are sure the rest of the morning will be spent opening the gifts that Santa has left for you! Perhaps take a quick stroll before a traditional festive Christmas Lunch, which is accompanied by easy listening live music from The Walkers. Then relax once more in front of the roaring log fires. In the evening we serve an informal buffet supper, with piano music being played in our drawing room until 9pm.

Boxing Day – Sunday 26th December 2010

Following a hearty Victorian buffet breakfast, the day is yours to enjoy: go walking, shop at the start of the local sales, or take a cruise on the Lake enjoying the breathtaking Lakeland scenery. If you wish to stay indoors, you can join us later in the morning for an interesting and mind-challenging competition. For the fifth year running (anniversary year!) we will be holding another entertaining skimming competition in the afternoon on the lake shores (supported by a hot drink!) with fantastic prizes to be won. You can partake of tea, Christmas cake and mince pies later in the afternoon and around this time the results of the morning’s competition will be given. You will round off your day with a sumptuous dinner, to the accompaniment of live music.

Monday 27th December 2010

Following breakfast, unless you decide to stay a little longer, we must say goodbye until next year and wish you a safe journey home. We hope that you will take with you happy memories of Storrs Hall, as well as our very best wishes for the New Year.

However, don't forget to return and visit us occasionally during the year.

Christmas 2010 Tariff

Our four-night stay commencing on 23rd December is inclusive of meals as indicated. All our rooms are beautifully appointed with sumptuous furnishings, antiques and objets d’art. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom, most with bath and shower, direct dial telephone, radio, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. Guest rooms are located on the first and second floor, up one or two flights of stairs respectively.

All prices are based on two guests sharing a twin or double room (except single rooms) and include VAT.

Additional Nights

Arrive early and give yourself time to relax and prepare for the Christmas celebrations, or alternatively stay longer for an extra day or so (subject to availability).

Whilst enjoying the festivities, make sure you find time to use Low Wood Leisure Club (at our sister hotel), just 6 miles away. The leisure complex comprises a 50ft swimming pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, squash court, extensive fitness studio as well as beauty and hair salons.

New Year Breaks

Storrs Hall provides an ideal location for celebrating the New Year. Enjoy a relaxing 4-night break in the company of fellow guests with whom you can share the excitement of the arrival of 2011.

Programme of Events

Wednesday 29th December 2010

Arrive at your leisure in the afternoon, then relax and recover from your journey in front of a roaring log fire. Between 4pm and 5pm we provide tea and scones. A glass of wine and canapés are served in the Drawing Room at 6.30pm when you have the opportunity to meet your hosts and fellow guests. The day will draw to a close with a sumptuous dinner in our restaurant to the accompaniment of live music, followed by a surprise event at 10pm.

Thursday 30th December 2010

After breakfast perhaps you would like to relax for the day and take a leisurely stroll down to the jetty through the grounds, enjoying the breathtaking views. In the afternoon we host an ongoing Port Tasting in our cellars. You may then look forward to a drinks reception with canapés in the evening, before enjoying dinner with live entertainment playing in the background. Relax with coffee and petits fours; then, if you wish, at 10pm you can join in an interesting and mind-challenging competition.

New Year’s Eve - Friday 31st December 2010

A leisurely breakfast, a day spent relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the Lake District and its many attractions. During the afternoon there is a Champagne Tasting in the cellar, where you can get a feel for what you enjoy and would like to order, in preparation for midnight. The evening begins at 7.00pm when a glass of bubbly and canapés are served in our lounges, before you indulge in our Gala Dinner (black tie preferred, but not obligatory). Dinner will be to the accompaniment of live music and the annual visit from the Lakes Handbell Ringers, followed later by dancing into the 'wee' hours hosted by our hotel DJ. Toast the New Year with champagne as Big Ben strikes twelve and join in the traditional singing of ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

New Year’s Day - Saturday 1st January 2011

Start as you mean to go on! Relax, enjoy a lie-in and indulge in a Victorian buffet breakfast. The day is yours to spend as you wish. At 11am you can join in a pleasant New Year's walk to nearby Rosthwaite Heights, to make an energetic start to the year (bring your walking boots!). On your return you can luxuriate in the warmth of the open fires. At around 4pm the results of Thursday’s mind challenge will be explained. In the evening you will join fellow guests for a glass of wine in the Drawing Room, before experiencing your first dinner of the New Year – enhanced by the performance of live music from the Walkers.

Terms & Conditions

Booking and Deposits for Christmas and New Year bookings

For more information, or to book your Christmas or New Year Holiday, please telephone us or email us. To secure your holiday, a non-refundable deposit of £100 per adult is required at the time of booking. This can be made by simply quoting a credit card number and details, or by sending a cheque which must be received within 7 days of the booking being made. Full payment of the outstanding balance is required 6 weeks prior to your stay.
