Tuesday 23rd December 2008
Your festive celebrations commence with a warm welcome and glass of mulled wine on arrival, along with a traditional Lakeland afternoon tea, served in our lakeside bar or by the open fire in our lounge. Suitably refreshed, join your hosts and fellow guests for a Kir Royale and canapé reception where you will have the opportunity to meet friends old and new. Award winning chef Michael Weston-Cole and his brigade then welcome you to The Bay Restaurant for a very special four-course candlelit dinner. Following this, join us in our very own ‘Casino Royale’ and chance your hand on our roulette and blackjack tables (or alternatively cheer on your favourite hamster in our all-new Rodent Race)!
Christmas Eve - Wednesday 24th December 2008
Following a hearty Lakeland breakfast, the day is free for you to discover, or to re-visit, the many treasures that the Lakes have to offer. Why not explore the delights of Ambleside with the return of our popular Prize Treasure Hunt, buy that last minute Christmas present, or alternatively relax and unwind in our bar and lounge with a glass of your favourite tipple before enjoying another traditional afternoon tea.
Matt Stanaway, General Manager, and his team then welcome you to the evening celebrations with a Champagne and canapé reception, with our resident musician playing you through a sumptuous four-course candlelit dinner in the Bay Restaurant.
The local parish churches welcome the community and visitors alike for midnight mass, and a glass of mulled wine will await your return to the hotel.
Christmas Day - Thursday 25th December 2008
Our chimneys will be cleaned in anticipation of a seasonal visitor who may still be here to wish you a Happy Christmas as you savour a glass or two of Bucks Fizz prior to a full Lakeland breakfast. Although we’re sure that for many the rest of the morning may be spent opening gifts, our now traditional guided walk around the local area will give you the opportunity to enjoy some stimulating and invigorating Lakeland air. You’ll now have some space for our sumptuous four-course traditional Christmas Day lunch served with all the trimmings, followed by a slice of Christmas Cake whilst watching the Queen’s Speech on television at 3pm.
Join us again in the evening as we welcome the return of the South Lakes Handbell Ringers, followed by a light but sumptuous buffet supper, the rest of the evening being relaxed and informal and the perfect opportunity to unwind following the exertions of the day.
Boxing Day - Friday 26th December 2008
Relax and enjoy a well-earned lie-in! Brunch will be served in the Bay Restaurant until 11.30am. Following this, you could take advantage of a complimentary cruise on Lake Windermere. All budding chefs will no doubt choose to join Head Chef, Michael Weston-Cole, this afternoon for a cookery demonstration where you may even get the opportunity to make a meal for your fellow guests! Michael is a regular presenter at some of the region’s most high profile food events and will offer a light-hearted insight into some of the best produce the region has to offer. Complemented by a selection of our favourite wines, this is an opportunity to either ‘get your hands dirty’ or simply enjoy the show...and food!
Following another exquisite dinner served in the Bay Restaurant, it’s time to assemble your team for the Waterhead Festive Pub Quiz with prizes for the lucky winners.
A drink or two in our Bar and Lounge overlooking Lake Windermere will round off a memorable and relaxing Christmas.
