Christmas Breaks and New Year Breaks at The Wild Boar
Christmas Breaks
Picture a traditional scene, with Father Christmas outside a snow bedecked coaching inn situated in the English Lake District with cosy log fires showing through the windows. Picture yourself as a guest of the Famous Wild Boar. Although we cannot guarantee a white Christmas, you can be assured of a relaxing, traditional holiday. Low oak beams, original flagstone floors, combined with friendly, courteous and attentive service, complete the unique character and ambience that is the Famous Wild Boar.
Programme of Events
Arrive on 23rd December for the 4-night package and on 24th December for the 3-night package.
Thursday 23rd December 2010
Your festive celebrations start with the traditional Wild Boar welcome. You will be greeted with a warm glass of mulled wine and a selection of cakes and scones. Once you have settled in to your Christmas surroundings, Andy and the team will be hosting a Whisky Tasting in our new bar where you will be able to decide which one you may sample again later.
This evening Head Chef, Marc Sanders, and his brigade will have prepared you a four course candlelit dinner; this will begin to the sounds of the Lakeland Hand Bell Ringers.
The evening’s entertainment is of a traditional nature and will include various parlour games, Giant Jenga and our annual Dominoes competition.
Christmas Eve – Friday 24th December 2010
There is no need to wake early as we are serving breakfast until 10.30am this morning.
This afternoon Head Chef, Marc Sanders, will be looking to find the newest member of his team; he will be offering the opportunity for you to help him prepare some of our most popular dishes and see how some of the dishes are smoked in our smoke house. You will get an insight into the art of smoking food and experience some of the best produce the region has to offer. This will be complemented by a selection of local ales – an opportunity either to ‘get your hands dirty’ or simply enjoy the show!
This evening we will start with a champagne and canapé drinks reception. A four-course candle-lit dinner will follow where you will be joined by the Carol Singers who will entertain you with renditions of your favourite Christmas carols.
Later this evening we will be holding our “Nearest the Pin” Golf Competition. Although this involves no actual golf balls or clubs, we will have our own plus fours expert on hand to assist you.
Christmas Day - Saturday 25th December 2010
A very Merry Christmas to you all! The day starts with a glass of Bucks Fizz followed by a traditional Lakeland Breakfast.
At 10.00am you are invited to join one of your hosts on a short walk around the Gilpin Woods at the rear of the hotel to help build your appetite for the feast that awaits you. We will ensure that you return to the hotel with plenty of time to prepare yourselves.
Following lunch is the chance to relax and unwind in front of a roaring fire, whilst listening to the Queen’s Speech. As is Wild Boar tradition, there will be Christmas cake for those who are still a little peckish.
This evening is a more relaxed affair with a light buffet supper. Later on we will be holding our Christmas Quiz.
Boxing Day – Sunday 26th December 2010
This morning we are serving brunch until 11.30am.
The day is then yours to enjoy: take in some of the local scenery, visit some of the many shops, make use of your complimentary membership of our sister hotel, the Low Wood’s leisure club, or just find a comfortable spot near one of our fires and relax with a drink or two. For the more energetic, why not take the chance to explore the 72 acres of woodland to the rear the hotel, with the added bonus of collecting some festive treasure at the same time by completing our Woodland Treasure Hunt.
This evening we will be serving you a four course candlelit dinner and we have selected a bottle of wine per couple to accompany your meal with our compliments.
This evening you are all invited to a night at the races. Beware – only those who have studied the form guide will find themselves in the winner’s enclosure!
